Industry Overview

The Irish Dairy Industries Association (IDIA) represents Ireland’s primary and secondary processors. IDIA promotes the interests of its members at national, EU an international level and provides a comprehensive information, advice and representation service to its members. IDIA engages in the policy and regulation formation process to ensure that industry competitiveness is enhanced.
The key issues covered by IDIA include Trade and Market Competitiveness including - EU milk policy, Common Agricultural Policy reform, WTO and global trade; Operational Issues such as environmental and energy issues, and regulatory and technical affairs.

IDIA contributes to the competitiveness of the Irish industry through its membership of a global network of trade associations including European Dairy Association (EDA), International Dairy Federation (IDF), IDACE (European Dietetic Foods Association) and International Special Dietary Foods Industries (ISDI). These associations have excellent links with European and International Institutions and together form the key business and regulatory representations channels for the dairy processing sector.

The Irish dairy industry is internationally focussed with a global reach. Ireland exports 80% of all dairy production. Over the last two decades, Ireland has become one of the world's leading producers of infant nutritionals products with the presence in Ireland of leading infant nutrition companies and accounts for 15% of the global supply of infant formula.
